Most of you know that I have a product.  It is the Effortless eBook Writing Course.  I really love that course and I am very proud of it.  But I’ve stopped promoting it because I wanted to focus on other things first.  This post is not about the course of course.  I just wanted to tell you about a problem I faced when I wanted to create a page about it here on my blog.  I wanted to insert some thumbnail images into that page.  The problem was that the thumbnails looked really messy.  This is how they looked:

the effortless ebook writing course screenshots

I used to insert the first image, choose the thumbnail size and then set the alignment as “Left”.  After that, I insert the second and third images and set the alignment as “Center” and “Right”.  Logically, the thumbnails should look like this:

my course screenshots

But for some reason they didn’t look like that at all.  At that time, I didn’t know what to do because I was ignorant about the amazing options WordPress offers.  I had no choice but to center all images.  They looked like this:

the effortless course screenshots

Now that I know a bit about WordPress, I have another solution for this problem.  It is inserting a thumbnail gallery.  I am going to show you how to do that now.

  1. Upload your images
  2. Click on Save All Changes
  3. Scroll down and choose your Gallery Settings
  4. Click on Insert Gallery

click on insert an image icon, click on select files, select all images and upload them

click on save all changes when you finish uploading images

Click on Save all Changes and then scroll down to find this:

Click on insert gallery

You should link the thumbnails to the image file so people get to see the original images when they click on the thumbnails.  For the gallery columns, I prefer to choose 3.  You can of course choose the number of columns you want based on the design of your blog theme.

Once you insert the gallery, publish the post or page and visit it.  This is how the gallery would look like:

Thumbnail Gallery

This is way better than the previous look.  The thumbnails are decently presented and they link to the original images.  I didn’t know about this gallery option before.  It is so useful. I thought you can do this when you install a thumbnail gallery plugin or something like that.   I think there are still many unexplored options in WordPress…

Some of you might be aware of this option.  I just want to share what I learn with those who don’t know about it. :) Thank you for your time and attention and as always, I hope you’ve learned something new today.

Have a great week!

    Hey Mouh,
I am aware of this feature. Once I utilized it for putting a few pics I had taken while I was on vacation and the gallery thing really helped them to be placed easily on the blog

  9. Hi Mouh,

That’s really a nice feature at word press. This would surely help for picture driven postings or to display information as sequences by photos. Though I did notice this tool I haven’t tried yet at my postings.

Thanks for sharing the nice tip.

This is great to know. I wonder if it works with the other sizes for images? I have had the worst time adding multiple pics. So I did like you and just centered them all. I might go back and try this gallery insert on the post.

    • Mouh says:

      Hi Judi,

I am afraid it doesn’t work with for other sizes… I don’t think it is possible to insert a gallery this way when the size is bigger than the thumbnail default size. But since you mentioned it, I’ll try to pay more attention to this and start to look for ways to do it.

      Thanks a lot Judi!
