simple diagram

Most bloggers have limited graphic design skills.  I am one of them.  I’d love to learn how to design and create beautiful stuff, though.  I plan to learn how to use some complicated software in the future.  But for now, I like to use free tools that deliver professional results easily.  Finding them is not always easy.  In fact, the most expensive software are those that give professional results the easy way.  But still, there are some amazing software that are free.  When I find those, I like to share them with my friends and visitors.

In today’s post, we are going to learn about a free application I totally love.  You’ll learn how to use it to create professional and clean diagrams easily just by dragging and dropping objects.  You’ll also learn how to use all of the freebies I gave you before in this tool.

The tool is called Simple diagram.  There is a free version and a paid version.  The paid version costs $19.  The free version comes with few object libraries and features.  With the paid version, you’ll have access to extra libraries.  I believe the free version is enough and if you know how to use it cleverly, it can be better than the paid version!  This is because you can create your own libraries using the freebies I gave you. I am going to show you how to do that.  Meantime, check this diagram I created using this tool:

diagram

Now, I probably know what you are thinking.  There are many other software out there that help you create beautiful colorful diagrams.  You can even do that on Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.

My Opinion:

Simple Diagram isn’t like the rest for these reasons:

It is clean and professional

The black board and the hand drawn objects give your diagram an organic look.  I have tried other software but I have never felt that organic feel.

It is so simple.  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to use it

All you have to do is drag and drop objects and place them wherever you want.  To resize them, you just drag them.  No matter how bigger you make them, objects will never lose that professional look.

You have everything in one place

If you have used other software, you sometimes need to get other images and insert them.  With this software, you only need to navigate and find the objects you want.

To download the software, visit simple diagram website and follow these steps:

installing simple diagram

When you finish installing the software, open it and you’ll see this:

simple diagrams symbols

All you have to do is drag and drop the symbols you want to the black board.  You have many to choose from.

simple qiagram basic and business symbols

simple qiagram meetings and communication symbols

With the paid version, you have access to many symbols.  Also, whenever new symbols are created you get to download them.  You can’t do that with the free version. If you want to purchase the software, it is really worth it.  But as I said before, the free version is really more than enough for you.  I am going to show you how to get your own library of symbols using the freebies you find in this blog.  But before that, let me show you some of this tool’s features:

simple diagram features

The one cool thing about the pencil feature is that you can draw anything you want and then click on the cursor and make a symbol out of it.  This is useful when you don’t find the symbols you want.  Another solution to this problem is to add your own library of symbols.  This is really easy to do.  Just follow these steps:

new custom library

new custom library

drag image to create custom library

Now, what should you add to the custom library? You don’t have any symbols to add.

I knew you’ll face this problem.  That’s why I created some hand-drawn graphics that you can use in the software.  I converted them to white because that’s the best color you can use.  If you want them in a different color, simply change it in the tool.  Here are your free graphics:

hand drawn circles, arrows and lines

4 hand drawn arrows

18 hand drawn circles

6 hand drawn lines

UPDATE:  I forgot the most important thing: how to export your diagram to PNG! Sorry guys!  To do that, click on Diagram and then Export to PNG or simply click on Ctrl + E.

I love this tool so much and I am sure you won’t regret downloading it.  You’ll love it! You have my word on it. ;)

As always, If you like this blog post, please leave a comment.  That makes me happy. :) And sharing this post with your friends on Twitter or Facebook makes me happier. ;) And if you do both (leave a comment and share the post), I am going to be the happiest blogger on the Net! :D

Those are really nice looking diagrams. I have to give this program a check there’s a free version, but the paid one seems too good to pass up at $19. For a guy who is horrible it photoshop, this program would save a lot of frustration.

      Hi Max,

Thank you so much for your comment. :)

The paid version does worth the money if you plan to use it very often. If you don’t plan to use it a lot, I suggest that you go with the free version and use the free graphics I offer here and add your own libraries. One good thing about the paid version is that you can use any fonts you want. With the free version you are allowed to use Arial only. I avoid this problem by writing my own words with the font I choose and then save everything as an image. I then insert the image in my own library. After that, I simply insert the image and it looks like written words. If you need any help, feel free contact me any time!

    Hi Mouh,

Excellent diagram drawings :) I am fortunate enough to know how to create graphics. I took lessons for many years online. I use Corel’s PaintShop Pro, which is similar to Photoshop.

You gave your users a wealth of info about how to create their own drawings without having the knowledge. Excellent tutorial!
